Frequently Asked Questions

  • Everything between a client and their therapist is kept confidential in line with ethical requirements under CCPA, PHIA, and PIPEDA (the Canadian version of HIPPA). The only limits to confidentiality are if we are concerned about your safety or someone else’s. Additionally, if we learn of any neglect or abuse to a minor or vulnerable individual we will break confidentiality. This is discussed in our first meeting together as well.

  • I take a lot of notes but only to document what is going in your life, and what we are working on. The notes are as objective as possible and help me to ensure I am keeping a through line of intentionality with our work together. Notes are kept confidentially stored, unless requested by yourself or the legal system.

  • We require a 24 hour notice of cancellation. This policy protects Prairie Moon while holding accountability and honouring the work that you are doing. We understand there are circumstances that are exceptional, however please communicate with us as much as possible. A cancellation fee of the full clinical hour may be charged if an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice.

  • Many insurance companies will cover CCC registered mental health practitioners (Canadian Certified Counsellors) through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), however as there is no regulation yet in Manitoba, it may be prudent to ensure your plan covers my services. I am happy to support this process with a letter or advocation.

  • At the initial start of our work together, weekly sessions are recommended to promote a strong therapeutic alliance and foundation to work from. However, weekly, bi-weekly, and sometimes monthly frequencies are all common and can be worked out based on individual need and therapist availability.

Length of therapy can vary per person based on need and preferences. Usually a minimum of 5-6 sessions are needed to establish a good foundation to begin the healing process. Whilst treatment planning, this can be discussed further and on an ongoing basis with your therapist.

  • Prairie Moon’s hourly rate is $130 per clinical hour - flat rate. This goes towards our living wage, space rental, insurance, licensing, admin set ups/licenses, and professional development/trainings.

A sliding scale rate may be negotiated if cost is a barrier to you and there are sliding scale slots available within the schedule. Please communicate with us if a sliding scale rate may be of help to you.

  • This is very much person dependent. We are happy to accommodate either option based on need and preference. Many clients prefer in person as it adds layers of warmth and nuance that online sessions may not reach, however we have had long term clients do much deep and meaningful work solely through online options.

Online work together is done through a private and secure platform portal and I work from a private space as well. Phone options are offered at times as well if access to in person or online is limited. Prairie Moon strives to be flexible and meet you however it best works for you.

  • We are not able to formally diagnose or prescribe medication as therapists. Guided self-assessments or screener questionnaires can be offered if you are curious about fitting or not fitting into a certain criteria set for a mental health condition, and we could then support you through steps of formalizing a diagnosis through the appropriate external supports.

We honour and support various different perspectives on the use of labelling or not labelling when it comes to mental health and diagnoses.
