Welcome to Prairie Moon Therapy
Throughout my journey both professionally and personally, helping people to feel seen, heard, and deeply understood in this wild world has been my ultimate goal. Psychotherapy allows me to do just that with my clients. I achieve this using a very focused person-centered approach as my foundation and then work with my clients to layer on additional supports based on the goals and needs of their unique growth journeys.
When people come together and talk, it is then that beautiful things can happen and pieces of ourselves begin to unlock and then flourish. In therapy, I hope to shine a light on the inherent strengths within my clients and help them see themselves as capable of creating meaningful change in their lives while developing self-compassion.
It is an honor and gift to walk alongside the paths of my clients and my sincere belief that even in darkness, we can find a way to let the light in.

About Rees Buck - owner/psychotherapist - BA, B.Ed, PBDE, M.Ed, CCC
I have always had a pull in me to to help others, living by the creed of ‘no human left behind’ and so began a career in education with this purpose in mind. I moved from the classroom to student services as a resource teacher and guidance counsellor which brought me closer to my ultimate purpose. After receiving my Masters in Counselling Psychology, I found true alignment supporting mental health at Oak Tree Therapy and embraced that this is where I needed to take my life fully; thus Prairie Moon Therapy was born.
The big prairie moon, and specifically the Harvest Moon, was a perfect symbol, having grown up moon gazing in rural Manitoba and listening to my parents play Neil Young’s Harvest Moon on repeat beneath big prairie skies. Now the Prairie Moon represents reaping the benefits and harvesting the work that we put into something, be it in the wheat fields of our golden prairies, our careers, our children, or our own healing journeys.
It is within the space of your journey towards healing that I meet you: wherever you are on your path towards rising up and heading towards your own golden harvest.
Meet Harvey!
We are big animal lovers at Prairie Moon and our oldest member needs to spend a little less time home alone as he’s going to be 13 this year and needs a bit more time and attention. Harvey (nicknamed Harvard) is NOT a therapy dog, but will be spending more time at the office hanging out! Like his mum, he identifies as an introvert and spends most of his time sleeping in his bed at our feet during sessions.
Harvard enjoys long naps, car rides, bedtime snuggles, and anything food related.
p.s. Rees in the process of getting certified in animal assisted therapy and has hopes of integrating animals at Prairie Moon in a more true therapeutic fashion in the future!

About Rikki Buck - student psychotherapist - BSW candidate
I am a compassionate and client-centred therapist who works from a strengths-based, trauma-informed lens. Originally from the area of Oakbank, where Prairie Moon Therapy is rooted, I bring a deep understanding of rural community life to my work. I believe that every person carries inner wisdom and healing potential, no matter the challenges they face. My approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and a profound respect for each individual’s unique story.
With experience supporting children as young as four, I am privileged to witness the resilience of young people as they navigate trauma and life transitions, and I approach each client with compassion, respect, and understanding. I am truly grateful for each person I encounter and the trust they place in me.
Inspired by the natural beauty and stillness of the prairie, as well as the guiding light of the moon, I strive to create safe, nurturing spaces for my clients. My goal is to empower individuals to reconnect with their inner strength and foster healing through compassionate, client-centred care.
While I have a strong background in individual therapy for young children—incorporating play and art therapy to support emotional expression—I also work with adults navigating stress, grief, trauma, and personal growth. Regardless of age, I aim to create a space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported.
Our Values
We value evidence informed practices supported by current research and a culture of continuous learning to better serve the needs of our clientele.
We value flexibility and responsiveness in designing treatment plans that work for each unique individual.
We value egalitarian and collaborative therapeutic alliances between client and practitioner.
We value the diverse backgrounds and stories each client brings into our care and value sensitivity in our practices to honour those backgrounds.
We value safety and belonging for all clients at Prairie Moon.
Our Mission
To provide high quality person-centered psychotherapeutic services to clients within rural and urban Manitoba that are ethically sound, evidence backed, and informed by our own life and personal experiences, hardships, traumas, deep healing and personal enlightenments, allowing for authentic connections between client and therapist, and genuine care and empathy for our fellow human beings.
It is our hope to create waves of healing and wellness through our clients’ intra and interpersonal spheres of existence so as to help move us towards achieving greater happiness and peace in a world that sometimes seems to work against us.
“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.”
